Section 8 Participants Reach Settlement in Class Action Lawsuit Against Seattle Housing Authority (UPDATED 11/14/11)

LATEST NEWS: On Wednesday, November 9, 2011, the class that Columbia Legal Services represents asked the Court for an award of $165,000 in attorneys’ fees, $15,000 in costs and $15,000 in incentive payments to the two representative class members. The Court will consider this request at the settlement hearing scheduled for Monday, January 9, 2012. Below are links to the motion and other documents the class filed in support of the motion.
BACKGROUND:Columbia Legal Services represents a class of people in a lawsuit against the Seattle Housing Authority. The class includes all people who formerly participated in Seattle Housing Authority’s Section 8 Voucher program, had termination hearings on or after February 20, 2006 and before August 1, 2008 and whose Section 8 vouchers Seattle Housing Authority terminated after those hearings.
The class has now reached a settlement with the Seattle Housing Authority that will resolve the claims raised in the lawsuit. If you received a written notification in the mail regarding this matter, you may be a member of the class. If you have any questions, please review the settlement agreement reached by the parties, the Notice of Proposed Class Action Settlement and the court’s Preliminary Approval Order.
