City of Seattle v. Margola Documents and Information
Columbia Legal Services and Garvey Schubert an Barer represented the Tenants Union in discussions with the City of Seattle, the Rental Housing Association and other stakeholders regarding the fund created by the settlement agreement in the case City of Seattle v. Margola. The parties settled the case and created a fund. The purpose of the fund was to address substandard housing issues in multi-family housing. A committee was established to decide how to distribute the fund. The committee agreed to use part of the fund to create model documents that landlords and tenants could both use to address common issues. These documents include a summary of basic rights, a model lease, a repair policy and request form and security deposit forms. The documents are available in fourteen languages. We hope the documents will be useful to landlords and tenants. They do not constitute legal advice. You can find more information about your rights at www.washingtonlawhelp.org.
